Surrey Exam Tutor is led by Neil Costeloe, a professional engineer with over 30 years’ experience, applying mathematics, modelling and analytical problem-solving to complex real-world engineering projects.

Throughout his career, Neil has used maths to solve practical problems where accuracy, clear thinking and logical methods matter. This background brings a structured, calm and practical approach to GCSE tuition, helping students build confidence and understand not only how to answer questions, but why the methods work and how they apply to the real world.

Lessons are tailored to each student’s level, whether they need help strengthening the basics, preparing for exams or developing the confidence to tackle more challenging GCSE questions.

Teaching Style

Patient, structured and logical.  Lessons are paced to the students needs, with clear examples and practical links to real-world problem-solving.

Professional Engineer. Practical Maths Tutor.

What makes this different?

This is not generic tutoring. Students are supported by someone who has used mathematics professionally for decades in real engineering situations, where accuracy, logic and problem-solving are essential.

The focus is not simply on memorising methods, but on helping students understand how problems work, how to approach them step by step and how maths can be applied in real life.

This practical perspective can be especially helpful for students who have lost confidence, struggle to see the point of maths, or need clearer explanations than they may receive in a busy classroom.

Engineering Background

Mathematics has been central to my career in Petroleum and Reservoir Engineering - modelling, forecasting, data analysis and solving complex technical problems.
